About Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin

Kwara State Polytechnic, a prominent Nigerian tertiary institution, has a rich history that dates back to its establishment in 1973.

The idea of founding a polytechnic in Kwara State was first announced in 1971 by the then Military Governor, Col. David Bamigboye. Just two years later, in January 1973, the polytechnic officially began operations in Ilorin, the state capital.

The polytechnic’s administrative structure was modeled after the country’s universities, ensuring a strong foundation from the outset. Starting with just 110 pioneering students, Kwara State Polytechnic quickly grew into a respected institution, offering a range of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programs across various fields.

The institution’s first rector, Professor R.W.H. Wright, served from 1973 to 1976, laying the groundwork for what would become a legacy of academic excellence. Today, under the leadership of Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, who has been the rector since 2019, Kwara State Polytechnic continues to thrive.

The motto “Technology, Innovation, and Service” perfectly captures the spirit of the institution, which remains dedicated to shaping future leaders and innovators.
