- It was upgraded to a Polytechnic on January 1, 2002, during the administration of James Ibori.
- In January 2021, Governor Ifeanyi A Okowa of Delta State announced plans to elevate Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, along with two other schools, into a full-fledged University.
- The bills for this conversion had their first reading at the Delta State House of Assembly on January 28, 2021.
- Subsequently, in February 2021, the bills were passed into law after going through the house committee on Education.
- Governor Ifeanyi A Okowa emphasized the importance of providing opportunities for students in technical education to progress from technical colleges to polytechnics and further to universities of Science and Technology

Candidates Eligible to Buy DSUST Post UTME Screening Form
- Candidates must have credit passes in five subjects in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (S.S.C.E) or its equivalent.
- These credits should be obtained at not more than two sittings, in accordance with the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) requirements.
- For the Public Administration and Fine Arts & Industrial Design programmes, candidates need specific subject combinations.
- They must possess credit passes in English Language and Mathematics, along with at least one Science subject, and two other subjects from the Social Sciences or Arts.

How to Apply for DSUST Post UTME Form
- To apply to DSUST, candidates can easily do so online through the university’s website.
- They should navigate to the ‘Apply’ section under ‘Admissions’ and then select ‘Create Profile’.
- Following the provided instructions, candidates will proceed to make a payment of Two Thousand Naira (N2,000) using their preferred payment method, such as Card or Bank Transfer.
- After successful payment, candidates should upload their passport (not exceeding 600kb) and fill in other required information in the designated sections.
- They should carefully preview the filled form for any corrections, submit the form, and then print a copy for reference.
- Note: Candidates who did not initially select DSUST as their first choice institution must visit the JAMB website to change their University choice accordingly
