Some Fun Facts About Achievers University

  • Background and Career Progression:
    • Motto: Knowledge, Integrity and Leadership
    • Hon. Dr. Bode Ayorinde (FCIB, LL.B, BL, Ph.D) began his career journey in the banking sector in 1983 at the Cooperative Bank with a National Diploma in Secretarial Studies.
    • To advance in the banking industry, he pursued professional examinations with the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), successfully completing the first eight subjects in Part 1.
    • However, the absence of a tuition center in Ibadan for the remaining eight subjects in Part 2 compelled him to establish the Achievers Continuing Education Centre in 1991, which provided tuition for CIBN, ATS, and ICAN students, as well as GCE and JAMB coaching.
    • The centre expanded its services to include anchoring the satellite campus of Ondo State Polytechnic, founding Achievers High School in Ibadan, and eventually served as the foundation for the establishment of Achievers University in Owo, his hometown.
  • Ownership of Achievers Continuous Education Centre:
    • Initially, the Achievers Continuous Education Centre operated as a family business owned by Hon. Dr. Bode Ayorinde and was formally registered as a private limited liability company in 1994.
    • However, the decision to diversify into establishing a private university led the family to invite notable personalities to join the company through a private placement.
    • This private placement attracted 90 shareholders, including significant figures such as Chief Mrs. Olutoyin Olakunri, Sen. T. O. Olupitan, Senator J. O. Kolawole, as well as professors and senior academics, who became the owners of the University.
  • Campus and Infrastructure:
    • Achievers University operates on its permanent site, which spans 187 hectares and is located on Km 1, Idasen-Ute Road in Owo, Ondo State.
    • The university’s permanent site is covered by a Certificate of Occupancy and serves as the hub for academic activities and campus life.
  • Academic Journey:
    • Academic activities at Achievers University commenced on 2nd April, 2008, with an initial cohort of 126 students.
    • Since then, the university has consistently admitted students for 15 academic sessions and has successfully graduated 11 sets of students.
    • Notably, graduates from Achievers University have actively participated in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme without any issues.
    • The university began with two colleges: the College of Social and Management Sciences and the College of Natural and Applied Sciences.
  • Academic Expansion:
    • Over the years, Achievers University has experienced progressive growth, expanding its academic offerings and infrastructure.
    • Between 2012 and the present, three additional colleges and one school have been established:
      • College of Engineering and Technology
      • College of Law
      • College of Basic Health Sciences
      • School of Postgraduate Studies (established in 2017)
